Noemi
Noemi is the founder of Mollesnejta – Institude for Andean
Agroforestry. In the year 2000, she started this project with the
mission of recovering the poor, dry and stony soil of the 16 hectare (ha) property at 2.800m in the Cochabamba valley, Bolivia. With her extensive knowledge about dynamic agroforestry and her never-ending energy, she managed to convert the eroded land into a flourishing place,
rich in diverse plants, birds and life. Twice a year, Noemi travels to Europe giving seminars and workshops about dyamic agroforestry to finance the investigation done in Mollesnejta.

Don Demitrio
Don Demetrio is our employee who has worked at Mollesnejta the
longest. With his wife Doña Cresencia and son Pedro, he is living in the
house at the entrance to the property and doing the job of our portier.
Also, he works in all the fields and has extensive knowledge about the
different parcels, tools and how to repair equipment. He is also the
master of lamas and donkeys and brings them to their daily grazing area
to eat in the morning; also returning them to their pen in the evening.
Chewing coca leaves are certainly a must-have! Don Demetrio speaks
Quechua and Spanish.
Was während der Arbeit niemals
fehlen darf, sind Coca Blätter zum Kauen! Don Demetrio spricht Quechua
Don Demetrio habla quechua y castellano.

Doña Cresencia
Doña Cresencia is our beloved cook and counsellor. She prepares
delicious soup at 12pm and dinner at 5pm in-line with her orders for the
day. We love sitting toghether in her kitchen, talking, relaxing and
enjoying the break at midday. Doña Cresencia lives in the house at the
entrance of Mollesnejta with her husband Don Demetrio and her numerous
animals: Lorenzo the parrot, Chuco and Bello the dogs, many kittens,
goose, chicken, guinea pigs, … for whom she takes care of in a very
dedicated way. Doña Cresencia speaks spanisch and quechua too.

Juan Pablo
Juan Pablo is Noemi’s right hand. He is a forester and topographer,
has a strong car, a good heart and is always willing to help. Any
problem you might have, he will do his best to help you solve it. Juan
Pablo knows the inside tips and jokes. His principle responsibility is
the agroforestry tasks like pruning, tree nursery, planting, tending,
recovering, etc. but he also offers support in administrative work and
helps us with the communication with INRA (Instituto Nacional de Reforma
Agraria).

Don Basilio
Don Basilio works in Mollesnejta with his whole family. His wife Doña
Epifania and their little son come to help cutting the grass that grows
very quickly in the rainy season. His other son Javier works in Sipe
Sipe, another of Noemis agroforestry investigation spots, with his wife
Norma and their daughter Mari. Don Basilio normally works together with
Don Demetrio and is a friendly guy.
Don Basilios fast ganze Familie arbeitet in Mollesnejta.

Pedro
Pedro is a kind-hearted person and the calm soul of Mollesnejta – and yet, one can often hear his excellent music selection playing from his phone from afar. Pedro is the son of Don Demitrio and lives near the entrance of Mollesnejta, where he can often be found enjoying the delicious lunch and dinner prepared by Doña Crecencia.
Otherwise, he can be encountered working in the vast forests and fields of Mollesnejta. Here, the “trabajadorazo” puts in an incredible amount of work that few can keep up with. On his day off, Sunday, he enjoys pursuing his two passions: playing football and swimming.

Mirko
Mirko is Noemi’s son and helps in every area that is related to
technology. He solves any IT issues, repairs the Jeep, conects the water
pump and helps us out while Noemi is in travelling abroad. He lives in
Sipe Sipe (one hour south of Mollesnejta) and has a drone that he loves
to fly. Thanks to him, we’ve got some spectacular shots of Mollesnejta
from above. Mirko has a good pronunciation in english, spanish and
german language and a nice voice, so you might have heard him in one of
the videos on our Youtube channel.
Brenda
Brenda came to Mollesnejta in 2023 for an internship and stayed to write her thesis here. In doing so, she became an expert on mycorrhizae. Brenda investigated whether the accompanying species Chacatea and Tagasaste (which naturally have a symbiosis with mycorrhizae) can colonize the perennial wheat Kernza (R) and was able to confirm that they can. The wheat that grew with ccompanying species was better able to adapt to the dry climate of Cochabamba. In the control plot without companions, the wheat died. For her thesis defense, the entire Mollesnejta team came to support Brenda, and in the end, she received the highest grade: 100! With her research, Brenda has contributed to finding solutions and ensuring food security in times of climate change.
